SPOTLIGHT ON: Emerald Coach Nikki Brooks relieve my stress

When the world feels like it’s crashing down and someone cares enough to reach out and try to help relieve my stress, those are the special moments. Find out how Nikki came out on the other side stronger than ever!

“A year and half ago, my parents gave me a bag of Shakeology to try, in the hopes that it would relieve my stress or some of it, at least. You see, after an extremely difficult pregnancy, my youngest son was born in 2006, 10 weeks early. The obstetrician who was to deliver him came in and told my husband and I that he did not know if my baby would live. He was just so early. He was born May 10 and his due date was July 15. He weighed only 1 lb 15 oz. Mason spent 10 weeks in the NICU and during that time suffered a Level III Intraventricular Brain Hemorrhage on one side of the brain and a Level IV Intraventricular Brain Hemorrhage on the other side. His neonatologist told us he may not walk and, more than likely, would have Cerebral Palsy. He also had to have a spinal tap and was diagnosed with Hypospadious, meaning his urethra would have to be completely reconstructed. The team of doctors was convinced he had a genetic disorder so he was tested numerous times. He had 7 blood transfusions and really didn’t like to eat. He was finally able to come home on his original due date, July 15, 2006.

Once home, finding the best way to relieve stress was the furthest thing from me. I spent my time taking him to doctor appointments. We discovered he had a double hernia that had to be repaired. We had Nurses with Newborns and an Early Intervention Teacher come to work with Mason to see if he was hitting his developmental milestones. Between, 2006 and 2012, when I was introduced to Shakeology, Mason had undergone 5 surgeries. He was having seizures. I was taking him to Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy.  In addition to the usual urology, neurology, neonatology and pediatric appointments, I broke my arm right under my rotator cuff and a year later my husband broke his leg and destroyed his ankle. Let’s also not forget that I had an older son as well who needed my attention, love, support and his own transporting to and from school and play dates.

Is it EVEN POSSIBLE to Relieve My Stress?

relieve my stress

Needless to say, my stress level was exorbitant. I was overwhelmed with worries about if Mason would catch up to his peers. I was exhausted from all the appointments and just struggling to maintain typical household chores. We were also recuperating from our own injuries, which included plenty of physical therapy. Not to mention, I was trying to pay attention to Morgan (my older son) and to my marriage.

My parents were worried about me. To relieve my stress, they gave me my first bag of Shakeology, a super food loaded, meal replacement shake. I have to be honest. I didn’t think I would like it. I am a very picky eater. I don’t like vegetables and have issues with certain food textures. But, since they went to the trouble and wanted to help me relieve my stress so badly, I figured I might as well give it a try.

Oddly enough, I liked it. It was something I felt I could drink. So I did. Two months later, I decided to try the fitness program, Slim in 6. It was a program my husband could do also, as he recovered from having reconstructive ankle surgery.  I decided to become a Beachbody Coach and drink Shakeology every day.

What an Update I Have!relieve my stress

Since that day in late February 2012, there have been so many changes and not just physically. By doing Slim in 6, 10 Minute Trainer, Rev Abs, Chalean Extreme and currently, Focus T25, I have lost 12 pounds, lost inches, dropped down at least 2 dress sizes, and have toned up and gained muscle and strength. Also, by drinking Shakeology every day, my cholesterol has dropped 30 points, my glucose levels are very normal, my blood pressure stays steady, where it used to spike and bounce around and it really did help relieve my stress. But more than changes my body is experiencing, I am finding out who I am again. You see, spending 6 years doing everything in my power to make sure Mason has the best chance in life took my identity away. I used to paint, read on occasion (if you have kids you know how hard it can be to squeeze in time for that!), knit, garden, and bake. I didn’t have time for that anymore. But being a Beachbody Coach gave me something that is truly mine. I have begun a transformation on the inside that has nothing to do with weight or dress size. I am rediscovering myself. Through Beachbody, I am finding friends that are supportive, caring, and helpful. I am far from over on this journey and have lots more discovering to do, but I have something trelieve my stresshat is mine. I’m able to bring in extra income for my family, show people products that can truly transform, not only their physical body, but their spiritual being, and help them see that the products are not just products, but a way to gain confidence, self-assurance and, somewhere along the way, they discover that they got fit and healthy.

Oh, and Mason is a vibrant, healthy 7 year old boy.  He is socially behind his 7 year old peers in many ways but he walks, turns flips on the trampoline, runs, and is smart as a whip!  He still suffers from Epilepsy and requires a lot of extra help to catch him up, but he is going to land on his feet and be quite successful.  And Morgan, he is a loving, caring brother and I am blessed to have them, as well as my husband, stick with me and encourage me through this journey.”
