Could More Failures Be Better?
Hey guys! It’s Jessica Bowser Nelson and today I wanted to share with you about this experiment that really had a powerful lesson behind it.
There were two different groups of people…both of them were groups of potters..or people making something out of clay.
Let’s just use, as an example, a vase.
First Group
So one group was told to make as many vases as possible, say, in a 3 day period.
So it wasn’t about perfection.
It wasn’t about quality.
It was about quantity.
Second Group
The next group had the same assignment:
To make this vase in three days.
BUT, instead of as many vases as possible, they needed to make..
ONE PERFECT VASE.
So they could only submit one vase at the end of the three days, where the other group, their mission was to submit as many vases as possible.
Result
So now, when the three days ended, it was super crazy to discover that the group that made as many vases as possible actually sculpted A BETTER VASE than the group that had three days to simply work on one perfect vase.
Lesson Learned
So what do we take from this experiment?
It’s not about doing things PERFECTLY or doing things exactly how you THINK they are supposed to turn out. It’s about quantity. It’s about trying over and over and over and you’re actually going to produce a much better result..
thru failures and
thru learning and
thru messing up and
making mistakes…
you’re going to have a better end product then if you just try to do one thing perfectly.
So progress is actually perfection.
No matter what you’re striving for, get in the game. Keep going. Make mistakes. Fail your way upward and you’re going to find success easier. Just don’t be afraid to make mistakes, embrace your failures and get back up. Hopefully that was helpful.
