Does Setting Goals Sound Cliche?setting goals

I feel like the term “setting goals” is so over used and worn out. I almost cringe when I hear it, but in my industry dealing with health and fitness and being an entrepreneur it comes up often.

I believe there is so much more to setting goals though, then simply writing down a magical list and staring at it every day. You’ve tried that, haven’t you? Ha! Glad I’m not the only one. 🙂 Of course you have to back it up with action, but I also believe there is another key ingredient you need in there to make setting goals worth your while.

Magical Ingredient to Setting Goals and Achieving Themsetting goals

Belief. Vision. You’ve got to see it before you see it or you’ll never see it.

How can this happen? How can you help this process along? Think back in your life when you’ve had a defining moment. You know, one of those moments that changed the course of your life or made you who you are. Seriously. Think of it for a minute. Got it? It might have involved setting goals, even, but odds are it also involved either an outside person telling you who you could or couldn’t be. OR, it could have been a moment where something clicked inside of you like a light bulb going off.

In the video below, you will see how my dad’s belief in me changed it for me. What you don’t see is that in my earlier years, I felt like he doubted me. I felt like no matter what I did, it was never good enough. So in that moment when he DID believe in me, it propelled me forward faster than just setting goals ever would. Make sense? Now, you might be thinking, welp, what happens if you don’t have my dad in that moment you need him. Ha! This is where vision comes in. Whenever you are setting goals, if you don’t have someone there that you KNOW believes in you…or someone that you want to fight for your goal just to “show them” (this can also be a powerful force), then I want you to see it. I want you to believe that you are going to reach whatever it is you are striving for. If it’s a new car, I want you to smell that leather and plan our your first road trip down to the very last detail. I want you to believe its yours and get so hungry that nothing can stop you. That’s when you know setting goals is worthwhile. Check out how setting goals and my dad played a part in helping me reach one of my biggest goals ever!
