Who Are Mr. and Mrs. Jones Anyways?Keeping up with the Joneses

Yes, I’m in the Millionaire’s Club.
Yes, I drive a  scratched up 2008 Scion TC.
Yes, I fly coach unless I get upgraded for free.
Yes, I prefer to shop at TJ Maxx and Marshalls over any designer store any day of the week.
A lot of people don’t understand.
And I don’t care. Ha!
I always vowed to never worry about keeping up with the Joneses (whomever they are?!?). I wanted to live life my way, uninfluenced by what society THINKS I should do.
.
Early on in my life, I established my mission of being a millionaire (not kidding), debt free, experiencing true financial freedom and keeping my priorities straight. Not to say, I won’t buy a new car one day (as I’m sure I will be forced to eventually). Or that one day I might splurge on a designer “something” (just hope I can find it at TJ Maxx still, though—ha!). But my point is, it’s only if I choose to. Meaning me. If I find the value in it. I make the decision unaltered by what anyone thinks of me and I am NOT concerned in any way with keeping up with the Joneses. I’m not going to go in debt doing it or buy ONE DARN THINGbecause I can afford it” or because that’s what’s expected.

Keeping up with the Joneses No More

I gave up on doing what was expected of me a looooong time ago. I was valedictorian of my high school class. I went on to graduate from college in 3 years summa cum laude and for the next 12 years (wait for it…)
I WAITED TABLES.
Do you think that was expected of me!?!?!
Heck no!
People would make negative comments, frown upon my livelihood and talk down to me ALL THE TIME.
But I knew God had a plan. I was just on a desperate search to figure it out.
.
As a waitress, I used to always get asked by my customers, “So, what do you DO? Like what do you REALLY do?” (WHAT DO I DO??? I’m DOING it!)
.
Then after I told them in the most polite way possible (kill em with kindness, always), how this WAS my only job…they would continue on EVERY SINGLE TIME…
Oh, but you’re in school then, RIGHT!?!?
.
(I had graduated college many years prior…so fun.)
.
You can only imagine yearsssss later when I started my parttime gig as a coach while still waiting tables. Now I was IN MULTI LEVEL MARKETING (and I seriously got started unbeknowst to me). Oh geezzzzzz…so this is expected, right? NOT!
.
From most likely to succeed to waitressing to THE PYRAMID SCHEME THINGY?!?!? OH NO! At that moment, if I let society..aka people..aka the Joneses dictate my life, dang, it would look sooo different now.
.
Instead, I held my own. I followed MY path vs the expected one.
.
It’s the same with food. I get told ALLLLL the time…
Oh you can eat WHATEVER you want.
Do you know why I’m in the shape I’m in…because I DON’T eat whatever I want (can you tell I’m fired up!?!? Ha!).
.
The same is true in my finances.
Oh..you can afford that boat, that car, that designer purse.
Do you know HOW I can afford it??
Because I’ve chosen NOT to buy it.
I have no desire to buy anything just to flaunt it or make some kind of statement or because society thinks I should.

Unapologetically YouKeeping up with the Joneses

The moment you become unapologetically you….and forget about keeping up with the Joneses, you will find FREEDOM!
Maybe you want to have the nicest things..that’s okay too as long as its what YOU want and as long as it doesn’t put you in a bind financially (nothing is worth that, in my opinion).
.
People are quick to tell you WHAT you should be doing..
WHEN..
and in WHAT way
but VERY slow to look in the mirror.
.
My challenge to you is to self evaluate.
Do a check up from the neck up.
Make your own priorities.
Make your decisions wisely.
And encourage others to be the best they can be and choose wisely as well.
