How do you stay motivated?

I get asked about motivation ALL the time. Whether it’s in your workouts or even if you’re a coach on my team and it’s in your business, I feel like the same rules apply. Motivation is kind of a super sensitive topic because we feel like if we DON’T feel motivated, then we can’t DO the thing that we’re supposed to do. And when we don’t FEELmotivated, how do we GET motivated and it just becomes a big vicious cycle that usually ends up in either us quitting what we originally intended to do OR skipping enough days of, say, our workout til we feel like we can’t get back and we just throw in the towel.

So, that’s why I wanted to talk to you today about this super vital concept. Now a long time ago when I was in college, I had a professor that told me:How To Be Successful in Life

If you live like nobody else for five years, you can live like nobody else for the rest of your life. 
.
This is something you might have heard me say before because it REALLY stuck with me and I decided to apply it to my life. So now this can be in reference to your workout, (like I said) to your business, to anything you are trying to achieve yet you’re hitting this roadblock of all of the sudden losing your inspiration and motivation and not wanting to press forward. So anytime I get to that place…because, guess what? EVERY SINGLE PERSON gets to that place.

There are days where even the most fit person doesn’t want to work out or even the most workaholic, devoted employee doesn’t want to go to work. It’s just human nature. You have your good days and your bad days...the days you’re ON…and some days, you’re just OFF. But if you apply this principle that my professor told me, you will not have as many walls in your way that you keep running into.

The point is, you have to DECIDE that whatever it is you want, whatever it is you’re pushing for, whether you’ve chosen to start an exercise program because…
you want to feel better
you want to be there for your children
you want to fit in those jeans that you’re tired of looking at in your closet or
you just want to be able to look in the mirror and feel good about yourself
whatever your reason is,
YOU have to decide that NO MATTER WHAT you FEEL like, 
you’re still going to do the work.

If you wait for motivation, you’re just going to be waiting because there is no such thing as this specific formula that you can apply and all of the sudden you feel motivated.

You have to make the decision in your mind that no matter what you feel like, no matter what’s going on in your life, no matter what the circumstances might be, what happens to you, what SURPRISES you, no matter what goes on in your day, you’ve decided that this is now a part of your life and you’re going to do it REGARDLESS. It doesn’t matter how you feel, or what excuses you come up with or what your reality is, you’re going to get the job done.

And when you treat your life that way, I guarantee your workouts, your business, whatever it is you’re going for, it’s going to be easier because it’s no longer a choice. You’ve already MADE the choice so you don’t have to wake up in the morning and decide….”Ehhhh…do I FEEL like it today?” And spend 20 minutes battling in your brain…

“Well….I DID eat really good yesterday so I could probably skip today.”
“I’m kind of sore.”
“I do have a LOT to do…”
“I could do laundry and I probably SHOULD do laundry so then I’ll feel good about THAT and not feel bad about missing my workout.”

No.
These conversations don’t need to go on. You have to have laser like focus on where you want to go.
Don’t give yourself the OUT. 
Don’t give yourself the OPTION. 
Don’t give yourself the CHOICE to choose the wrong way.
.
So, like I said, motivation…..
Don’t wait for it. 
Don’t hope for it. 
Don’t look for it. 
Don’t try to find it. 
JUST GO DO THE THING whether that’s in your life, your business, your workouts, etc.
.
The key to what my professor told me was if YOU live like nobody else, meaning…every one else IS going to skip their workout, they ARE going to give up on their business because the results aren’t coming fast enough, they AREgoing to throw in the towel and change their mind and go the other way. But if you live like nobody else for five years, meaning YOU make the choice to do it regardless, to sacrifice your feelings, to turn off the voice in your head and to just go straight for it, no matter what, then you will live like nobody else for the rest of your life.
Because…guess what?
You’re going to FIND success in whatever you’re going for.
You’re going to FEEL amazing.
You’re going to have habits in place that are UNBREAKABLE!
And YOU are going to achieve your WILDEST DREAMS!

THIS has happened to me! And all I have done to achieve success is commit to doing small things every single day that have added up over time and made a difference in my life. And there were many, many, MANY, many, many days and I STILL have those days where I might roll out of bed and think, you know what?
I don’t feel like it today.
I don’t want to show up.
I don’t want to be positive.
I don’t want to workout.
I don’t want to eat healthy.
I don’t want to do any of these things.
.
And you know what? Sometimes, I don’t.
There are a couple days…I like to live by the 85/15 Rule.How To Be Successful in Life
85% of the time, I do what I’m supposed to do.
15% of the time, I eat Reese’s Cup Blizzards and take a day off and just let loose.
.
But 85% of the time, I’m making the choice, no matter what, I’m not waiting on motivation. I’m not letting excuses or the voices in my head talk me out of my dreams because I know what I need to do to get there and now you know, too.
Commit to the journey. 
Commit to the process. 
Don’t wait for motivation.
Don’t wait for inspiration.
Don’t wait for some feeling before you go. Just go and I promise the results will come.
