Reverse Engineering Your Dream Jobdream job

Every single Sunday night/ Monday morning I used to daydream about my dream job. I dreaded work. I wasn’t lazy, though. I was a hard worker. But, I wasn’t a super big fan of working my tale off for someone else. I left feeling overworked, under appreciated and slightly bitter. I knew I was a great employee. But simultaneously, I knew I was meant for more. I loved reading biographies of super successful people. Sam Walton (Walmart), James Cash Penney (J.C.Penney), Oprah Winfrey (you know her..ha!), Michael Jordan, etc. These were humans that combined passion with hard work. If they could do something great, why not me? The more I thought of this, the more I dreaded my job. I had to find my dream job and I wouldn’t be satisfied til I did.

The Cycle That Keeps You From Your Dream Job

Some of you are totally relating already, right? Do you have the desire? Do you stare at the clock at work thinking of your dream job? Do you know there HAS to be something else out there for you and where you are just ISN’T where you are supposed to be? Have you ever wondered how your boss got THEIR job? Do you feel overqualified for your position? If you feel any of these things, odds are you are destined for more and need to start taking steps now towards your ideal job. The cycle for me went something like this: 1. Have a bad/rough/frustrating day at work for whatever reason. 2. Beat myself up for not getting out of there years ago. 2. Dream of something else (and smile while you are thinking about it 🙂 ). 3. Get pumped up and determined to take action NO MATTER WHAT. I am ready. 4. A day or two passes. I get busy. Things come up. 5. I get comfortable again. The pain has lessened. 6. Back to step #1 and repeat. Years passed for me. They don’t have to pass for you. It’s time to reverse engineer your dream job. What would it entail? What freedoms would it allow you to have? What would be fulfilling in your life? Money isn’t always everything. Perhaps you want to spend more time with your family or be able to take your kids to school every morning. Really think of your priorities that would matter the most in your life. Write them down. And go from there. Don’t settle for anything less.
